1. Processing Period for visa application

The standard processing period for visa application is five (5) working days from the date of document submission. Depending on examination, it may take longer. Appointments are based on availability, therefore, it is strongly recommended that applicants request an appointment 3 months before their travelling date. The Embassy cannot speed-up the processing period to meet the applicant's estimated date of departure or desired date of visa receipt.
 

2. Prior to booking an appointment

The Consular Department will provide you with the required documents and procedures for visa application. Prior to booking an appointment for visa application, please send the following information by e-mail to the Consular Department. cy-ryouji@cy.mofa.go.jp
(1) Nationality
(2) Valid residence / work permit in the Republic of Cyprus (please provide the card expiry date)
(3) Number of applicants
(4) Travel Purposes (Tourism, Visiting friends or relatives, Business Affairs etc.)
(5) Scheduled Travel Dates
(6) Intended length of stay in Japan
 

3. General Notes for Application

  • All documents must be originally signed by the applicant (above the age of 6).
  • All fields on the application form must be filled out. If there is a field not relevant to you on the application form, please write “N/A”.
  • All documents required for visa application must be provided by each applicant.
  • The Consular Department will keep the applicant’s passport during the processing period of the visa application.
  • If necessary, the Embassy may request additional documents or the presence of the applicant.
  • Kindly note that a visa application may be rejected as a result of the examination.

 

4. Eligible applicants 

Eligible applicants are nationals of The Republic of Cyprus or foreign nationals with valid residence / work permit in the Republic of Cyprus.
※Individuals living in “Turkish Republic of North Cyprus - TRNC” - who do not have any identification of the Republic of Cyprus - are not eligible for application.

Visa Applicants whose residence permit expires before their return flight to Cyprus are not accepted. Applicants are responsible for renewing their residence permit prior to scheduling an appointment with the Embassy. The original renewal receipt must be submitted along with the required visa application documents.
 

5. Type of Visas

 (1) Short-Term Stay Visa

This type of visa is issued to foreigners wishing to visit Japan (for up to 90 days) for purposes such as:
tourism; visiting relatives/friends/acquaintances; and short-term business affairs.

(Notice) Under the short-term stay visa it is prohibited to engage in revenue-generating business operations or activities to receive remuneration in Japan.

(Notice) Citizens of some countries/regions, including the Republic of Cyprus do not require a short-term stay visa.

 (2) Work or Long-Term Stay Visa

 This type of visa is issued to foreigners wishing to enter Japan for long-term stay (exceeding 90 days) or for activities other than those permitted under the status of a short-term stay visa. Long-term visas are mostly issued for purposes of employment, education, training, and long-term residence.

For the above-mentioned activities, a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) can facilitate the application for a work visa or a long-term stay visa. A COE can be obtained at a regional immigration office in Japan through a proxy.

 (3) Visa for Medical Stay

This type of visa is issued to foreign patients wishing to visit Japan for medical purposes (including full medical check-ups) and to their accompanying person(s) as well, if necessary and as needed.
