The Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Cyprus commences visa services

Starting on April 1st, 2019, visa applications can be submitted to the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Cyprus.
The standard processing period for visa application is five working days from the date of the acceptance by the Embassy.
Depending on examination, should any additional documents may be necessary; or personal appearance of applicants may be requested; or if a visa application is made for the purpose of a long-term stay without a Certificate of Eligibility; etc., the examination may take longer than five working days (from several weeks to several months).
Please kindly take note that a visa application may be rejected as a result of the examination.
(1) Short-Term Stay Visa
Visa issued to foreigners wishing to visit Japan for up to 90 days for purposes such as:
tourism; visiting relatives/friends/acquaintances; and short-term business affairs.
(Notice) Under the Short-Term Stay Visa it is prohibited to perform any activities in Japan to undertake revenue-generating business operations or activities to receive remuneration.
(Notice) Citizens of some countries including the Republic of Cyprus (or regions) do not require a short-term stay visa.

(2) Work or Long-Term Stay Visa
Visa issued to foreigners wishing to enter Japan for long-term stay (exceeding 90 days) or for activities other than those permitted under the status of a Temporary Visitor. Long-term visas are mostly issued for purposes of employment, education, training and long-term residence.
For the above-mentioned activities, a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) can be obtained at a regional immigration office in Japan through a proxy. As soon as the applicant receives the COE, he can proceed to apply for a work or long-term visa.
(3) Visa for Medical Stay
This type of visa is issued to foreign patients wishing to visit Japan for medical purposes (including full medical check-ups) and to their accompanying person(s) as well if necessary and as needed.
(4) Non-Cypriot Citizens
Individuals who have permanent/temporary residence permit or working visas in Cyprus are also eligible for submitting visa applications to the Embassy of Japan in Cyprus.
