New Year's Greetings from the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Shinichi Nakatsugawa

Dear Friends,

Thank you for visiting our home page.  First I wish you all happiness and prosperity in this 2019, which is the final year of the Heisei Era.

Last year was a memorable and special year for the relations between Japan and the Republic of Cyprus.  In January 2018, the Embassy of Japan opened its office in Nicosia with the aim of deepening friendship and strengthening cooperative relations between our two countries.  To commemorate the establishment of the Embassy and the new chapter in the countries’ mutual relations, the Embassy of Japan held an opening reception in July.  We are grateful that the President of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Anastasiades, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan H.E. Mr. Nakane, government officials, economic and cultural groups, diplomatic missions and so forth attended the event.
Moreover, in October, Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Christodoulides was invited by the government of Japan for his first official visit to Japan.  It was a successful visit for both countries in regards to the development of bilateral relations, particularly, through the meeting with the Japanese Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Kono.
This year, we look forward to hosting major international conferences in Japan, such as the G20 Osaka Summit and the TICAD7 (Tokyo International Conference on African Development).  The abdication of His Majesty the Emperor, followed by the accession of His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince.  Also the Rugby World Cup will take place this year in Japan.  These events are sure to attract the attention of the international community toward Tokyo.  The Embassy of Japan in Cyprus would like to take this opportunity to further enhance personnel and cultural exchanges and deepen ties between Japan and Cyprus.
The Embassy of Japan in Cyprus strives to secure the safety of both Japanese residents in Cyprus and Japanese travellers to Cyprus, as well as to provide consular services.  As the equipment necessary for the consular services are not fully established yet, please kindly understand that the Embassy may not be able to respond promptly to the request as it would wish.  I appreciate your continuous and kind cooperation.
