MEXT Scholarship
Since 1954, the Government of Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT or Monbukagakusho) has provided scholarships each year to assist students interested in studying at Japanese universities through the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.
The process of application and selection
The application for Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship for 2023 for Research Students for a master or PhD degree, is NOW OPEN for Cypriot Nationalities who are born on or after April 2, 1988. (For details, please see 2023 Application Guideline below)
The Embassy of Japan in Cyprus will select preliminary candidates through the documents screening, then the language examinations and interview will be held on June 22, 2022. Those who have been selected as preliminary candidates will be recommended to MEXT.
Applicants who pass the Embassy selection stage of the application procedure will be expected to contact the universities listed on the form to try to obtain admission. The final selection will be made by MEXT after the university placement has been confirmed.
Please note that the Language examinations and interviews can only be conducted at the Embassy of Japan in Cyprus or any other venue in Nicosia designated by the Embassy. Online interview such as Skype or elsewhere will not be available.

Applicants MUST read through the Application Guideline and for Application (see below) carefully before applying and the Application forms must be printed from the link below and submit all together with other required documents.
Be sure that you prepare all the required documents. The documents, ‘Application form’, ‘Placement Preference Application Form’ and ‘Field of Study and Research Program Plan’ must be typed.

BY POST or BY HAND: Must be delivered to the Embassy on or before Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
*Any application documents submitted after the above deadline will not be considered for screening.
