Official Opening of “Kampos Sakura Park” (June 11, 2022)

On June 11th, the “Kampos Sakura Park” was officially inaugurated.
The opening ceremony took place along with Kampos Village celebration of “the Cherry Festival” over the weekend. Speeches, ribbon cutting of the Sakura Park, music performances by a Japanese flutist and a Cypriot guitarist, as well as a Cypriot traditional dance performance, were presented to celebrate the opening of the Park. At the beginning of the ceremony, the children of Kampos and Tsakkistra school sang “Sakura Sakura” in Japanese and also performed a dance.
At the entrance of Kampos Sakura Park, the Village placed a signboard of “Kampos Sakura Park” written in three languages; Greek, Japanese and English.
Now, there are 23 young trees of Prunus serrulata “Kanzan” and 3 young trees of Prunus serrulata “Shiro-fugen”at “Kampos Sakura Park”.
The park was created to commemorate the celebration of the 60 years of Diplomatic relations between Japan and Cyprus, as a symbol of our ever-lasting friendship for the years to come.
We sincerely hope that people in Cyprus will enjoy the blossoms of these Sakura in every spring at “Kampos Sakura Park”.
