2025 Spring Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals - Judo player Mr. Costas Papacostas conferred

On 25 September 2025, Ambassador Yamawaki presented the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, to Mr. Costas Papacostas, OLY, President of the Cyprus Olympians Association, at a ceremony held at the Ambassador’s Residence in Nicosia.
Mr. Papacostas, a distinguished Olympian and long-time friend of Japan, is the first Cypriot to receive this decoration of honour, awarded by the Government of Japan in the 2025 Spring Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals.
The decoration recognises his exceptional contributions to promoting judo in Cyprus and to strengthening ties between Japan and Cyprus.
